Residents affected by flooding in Degema and Tai Local Government Areas of Rivers State have received food and other essential supplies from the state government.
The distribution comes as families contend with damaged belongings and disrupted livelihoods, even after floodwaters have receded in several communities.
Floodwaters have receded in several communities across Rivers State, but affected families still face the task of rebuilding their lives.
Damaged household belongings, disrupted economic activities and difficulty meeting basic needs remain concerns for residents.
On Thursday, the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee extended its relief distribution to communities in Degema and Tai Local Government Areas.
The committee, headed by Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, provided food and other essential materials to help affected households cope.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Sirawoo, said support would continue beyond the immediate flood emergency.
Sirawoo said the government was also working towards longer-term measures to address recurring flooding in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Peter Nwagor, said the intervention was intended to ease the hardship facing vulnerable residents.
For families in Degema and Tai, the supplies are intended to meet immediate needs as recovery continues.
The government says further support for affected communities will accompany efforts to reduce the risk and impact of future floods.
