The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has handed over 11,580 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food to the Gombe State Government for children with severe acute malnutrition.
The agency says proper distribution, monitoring and accountability are essential to ensuring the supplies reach children who need treatment.
These supplies are intended to support the recovery of children receiving treatment for severe acute malnutrition in Gombe State.
UNICEF has provided 11,580 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, which contains nutrients needed for their treatment.
Beyond handing over the supplies, UNICEF wants safeguards to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries.
The agency urged health workers, parents and community groups to promote awareness, support proper distribution and help children complete their prescribed treatment.
The state is also exploring locally produced nutritious foods as part of its broader response to malnutrition.
Officials highlighted plans to increase the production of Garri Inuwa and expand the facility producing it.
At the local government level, distribution and monitoring will determine whether the supplies reach children undergoing treatment.
The state government says it will strengthen oversight of the supplies.
For affected families, access to treatment and support to complete it will be critical to their children’s recovery.
