The Committee of Unions in Niger State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (CUNOTI) has declared an indefinite strike, scheduled to commence on Thursday, 22 October.
The union stated that the decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Niger State Government over its failure to implement the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA).
The industrial action is expected to affect the College of Education, Minna; School of Agricultural Sciences, Mokwa; Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru; School of Basic Nursing and Midwifery; and other state-owned tertiary institutions across the state.
Confirming the development in a statement, the union said the government has yet to demonstrate any tangible commitment to addressing its demands, despite confirmation that the ultimatum was duly delivered.

Consequently, academic activities across all state-owned tertiary institutions are expected to be paralysed from Thursday as union members mobilise to enforce full compliance with the strike directive.
CUNOTI comprises both academic and non-academic staff unions, meaning the strike will disrupt activities across both categories of personnel in the affected institutions.
