Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration is committed to restoring order and improving the living conditions of residents in the old Port Harcourt Township.
The governor says the ongoing rehabilitation of roads and construction of a new market in the area are aimed at ending roadside trading, easing traffic congestion, and providing a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the new Creek Road Market.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, returns to the old Port Harcourt Township, this time to assess progress on the construction of the first phase of the new Creek Road Market.
The project is expected to transform commercial activities in the area by providing traders with an organised and more suitable environment to conduct their businesses.
For years, roadside trading has been a major challenge along Creek Road, contributing to traffic congestion, obstructing the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and raising concerns about environmental sanitation.
The new market is designed to address these challenges by relocating traders into a designated commercial facility, thereby restoring order and improving accessibility within the township.

The initiative is part of the Fubara administration’s broader urban renewal drive, which seeks to improve infrastructure, promote orderly commercial activities, and enhance the overall appearance of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Beyond easing traffic congestion, the project is also expected to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents, traders, and other road users.
Governor Fubara says the administration remains committed to projects that directly address the needs of the people while creating a more organised and functional urban environment.
When completed, the Creek Road Market is expected to boost commercial activities and contribute to the revitalisation of the old Port Harcourt Township.
The contractor handling the project has assured that the market will be completed and delivered before the end of January 2027.
