A relationship dispute is suspected to have preceded a tragic incident at Asco Camp in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria, where two serving police officers have been found dead.
Corporal Amos Yusuf allegedly shot his girlfriend, Grace Abraham, before taking his own life.
The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with family members struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The Asco Camp community is mourning the death of two police personnel following a suspected fatal shooting involving officers attached to the Ajaokuta Police Division.
Both policemen were reportedly involved in a relationship.
Yusuf is alleged to have shot Abraham before dying by suicide.
However, the circumstances leading to the incident have yet to be fully established.
For Grace Abraham’s family, the tragedy has brought unimaginable grief, as her mother and brother recount the events surrounding her death.
Residents also speak of alleged disagreements in the relationship before the incident, leaving many questioning whether earlier intervention could have prevented the tragedy.
Beyond the immediate circumstances, the incident has drawn attention to the need for accessible psychological support, effective conflict resolution and early intervention for personnel dealing with personal or emotional distress.
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The remains of the two officers have been deposited in a morgue as investigations continue.
