Nigerian champions, Edo Queens have petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF), seeking the annulment of the rescheduled wafu zone b women’s champions league qualifying final against Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
The petition follows a 3-2 defeat in the continuation of the match in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.
In the petition, Edo Queens are asking CAF to declare the result null and void, alleging that the continuation did not comply with the venue and sporting conditions set out in earlier decisions by CAF’s organising committee and appeal board.
The Nigerian side also wants WAFU Zone B to produce documents, including the original match sheet, substitution records, eligibility lists and disciplinary records, which it says should have been provided before the match.
Edo Queens further allege that they were prevented from fielding some eligible players who featured in the original encounter, while questioning the change of venue from Ouagadougou to Cairo.
The club has also asked CAF to investigate the accommodation provided for its delegation, claiming that the team was housed in a military base rather than a hotel.
As its primary relief, Edo Queens want the match played again in full over 90 minutes, under regulated conditions, with eligible players and at the original venue.
The club has also asked CAF to suspend the final allocation of the WAFU B qualification slot until the petition is determined.
Edo Queens says that if a full replay cannot be concluded before the CAF Women’s Champions League begins on November 1, CAF should, as an alternative, declare the Nigerian club the WAFU Zone B winner.
