Nigeria is reviewing its 2019 National Security Strategy to address emerging threats and strengthen coordination across government and security agencies.
National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, has inaugurated a 33-member review committee in Abuja, with a November 27 deadline to submit its report.
From terrorism and kidnapping to cyber attacks, misinformation and food insecurity, Nigeria’s security challenges extend beyond the battlefield.
These threats, and changes in the regional and global security environment since 2019, are driving a review of the country’s National Security Strategy.
In a message delivered at the inauguration in Abuja, NSA Ribadu, says the new framework must address present challenges while preparing the country for future threats.
The proposed National Security Strategy 2026 is expected to guide coordination on national security, strengthen resilience and support sustainable development.
Ribadu says protecting lives must go alongside efforts to strengthen the economy and promote national cohesion, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The committee draws its membership from ministries, the Armed Forces, security agencies and other institutions.
Its assignment includes broad consultations with relevant institutions and stakeholders to produce a strategy that is realistic and can be implemented.
The Office of the NSA has pledged administrative, technical and logistical support for the exercise.
