Elders of Ikpeshi-Egbigere Clan in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, South-South Nigeria have appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to review an alleged recent change in the clan’s traditional leadership.
Speaking at a media conference in Benin City, they say the removal of Regent Nicholas Odamah III has raised concerns in the community that wants the State Government to prioritise peace and stability.
The traditional leadership dispute in Ikpeshi-Egbigere Clan, has taken another turn following a purported change in the State Government’s decision on who should oversee the clan.
In November 2025, the Edo State Government removed Lukman Momodu and appointed Nicholas Odamah III as regent pending the determination of the rightful occupant of the traditional stool.
According to them, on the 20th of October, 2026, the State Government allegedly terminated Nicholas Odamah’s appointment and reinstated Momodu.

The supposed development has unsettled elders of the clan, who say the period under Odamah’s regency brought relative peace to the community.
They are now appealing to Governor Okpebholo to reconsider the said decision, stressing that the people’s acceptance of their traditional leadership is important to maintaining unity.
The elders also want the government to engage the parties involved and ensure that the dispute is handled transparently.
For the elders, the priority is to prevent further disagreements and preserve peaceful coexistence among the people of Ikpeshi-Egbigere Clan.
