Nigeria's Coat-of-Arms

Nigeria is stepping up efforts to deliver on its climate commitments with the inauguration of a National Steering Committee for the implementation of its Third Nationally Determined Contribution, NDC 3.0.

The framework targets a 32% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, but achieving the goal will require an estimated $337 billion financing over the next decade.

At the event in Abuja, key players called for stronger collaboration among federal and state governments, development partners and private investors to translate climate commitments into measurable results.

From devastating floods and extreme heat to coastal erosion and growing threats to food security, the impacts of climate change continue to challenge Nigeria’s development.

The Federal Government is now seeking stronger coordination across key sectors of the economy to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate-related risks.

At the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for the implementation of the Nationallly Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) in Abuja, stakeholders emphasised the need to move beyond policy commitments to practical action.

The framework covers critical sectors, including energy, agriculture, industry, forestry, land use and waste management.

Nigeria has set an economy-wide target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 32% by 2035, relative to the 2018 baseline, as part of its pathway towards net-zero emissions by 2060.
