President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, following recognition by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, for its role in a joint operation that led to the arrest and extradition of two Nigerians accused of sexually exploiting and extorting minors.
The FBI Director, Kash Patel, in a letter to EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, praised the Commission’s contribution to Operation Artemis, an international investigation targeting criminal networks involved in the sexual exploitation of children.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the operation resulted in the arrest and extradition of Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale to the United States in August 2026, where they are facing federal charges.
President Tinubu described the FBI’s commendation as recognition of Nigeria’s growing efforts in combating financial crimes and strengthening international law enforcement cooperation.

He said Nigeria must not become a safe haven for criminals who exploit innocent people, assuring the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies of his administration’s continued support in bringing offenders to justice.
The President urged the Commission to sustain its efforts, saying effective law enforcement and international collaboration remain critical to protecting citizens and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s institutions.
