The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, says the two suspected cases of the Ebola Virus Disease in Yola, Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing.
The agency says there is currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State, while the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja remains the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria.
In a statement signed the NSCDC Director-General, Dr. jide Idris, the suspected cases were reported to the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of October 30, following the identification of two individuals presenting with symptoms suggestive of the Ebola Virus Infection.
He noted that the negative test results have ruled out Ebola in the two suspected cases, although the incident highlights the importance of early detection, prompt investigation and effective disease surveillance in preventing potential outbreaks.
Dr. Idris commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive response, assuring that the agency would continue to provide technical support to strengthen the state’s response operations.
The NCDC has urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, advising the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for updates.
The agency also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure to the virus, to seek immediate medical attention and disclose any relevant travel or contact history.
