Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has declared that his administration remains committed to creating self-employment opportunities for the youth, and the strengthening of poor and vulnerable households, as a means of contributing to the economic empowerment of citizens.

The Governor spoke at the distribution of vocational skills starter packs to beneficiaries, under the State’s Inclusive Basic Service Delivery And Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme in Jalingo, the State capital.

At least 125 households in Taraba may have their economic burdens get lighter, as the State Government trained and graduated individuals in various vocational skills in the last five months.

On completion of their apprenticeship trainings, the beneficiaries were presented with starter packs by the State Government to support their entrepreneurship journeys, and becoming economically self-reliant.

The programme is being handled in partnership with the African Development Bank, and has been implemented in several phases by the State Government.

Governor Kefas at the flag-off of the distribution of the starter packs to the latest beneficiaries at the office complex of the State’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, said the programme is a step towards empowering the youths and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, adding that the programme reflects the government’s commitment to investing in it’s citizens.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Gebon Kataps, tasked the beneficiaries to be diligent in their new ventures.

The State Programme Coordinator, Julius Awudu said, the latest distribution is for the second batch of beneficiaries, as the first batch of 100 had received their starter packs, adding that the programme has other components that have improved the livelihoods of thousands of Taraba people.

Some of the vocational trades learned by the beneficiaries include; tailoring, carpentry, ICT, welding and fabrication, and shoe making, amongst others.
