Nigeria’s House Of Representatives said on Wednesday that it is set to transmit the historic State Police Bill to President Bola Tinubu for assent.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, made this known at the start of Wednesday’s plenary.
The Deputy Speaker confirmed that the legislative document, which will allow for the establishment of State-run Police across the Nigerian federation, has now completed its statutory and legislative process, and ready for transmission to the President.
Kalu also announced that support for the Bill among State Houses of Assembly rose from 28 to 29, describing it as a significant milestone in the constitutional amendment process, which requires the concurrence of at least two-thirds of the 36 State legislatures.
