The Niger State Ministry of Health has unveiled five tricycle ambulances donated by the Federal Ministry of Health to strengthen emergency transportation services and improve access to maternal healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved communities across the state.
Commissioner for Health Murtala Bagana said the vehicles would be deployed to selected local government areas to complement existing emergency transportation arrangements and facilitate access to essential maternal healthcare services.

He explained that the initiative was designed to address transportation barriers confronting pregnant women, especially those in communities where conventional ambulance services may be difficult to access, thereby ensuring timely access to antenatal care, safe delivery and other essential maternal health services.
Bagana said the intervention aligned with the New Niger Health Agenda, which prioritises accessible, affordable and quality healthcare delivery for residents of the state.
According to the commissioner, improving grassroots healthcare delivery requires practical interventions that address the challenges preventing pregnant women and other vulnerable groups from accessing medical attention when needed.

He subsequently handed over the five tricycle ambulances to the Executive Director of the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NSPHCDA), Junaidu Inuwa, for onward distribution to designated primary healthcare facilities across the state.
The commissioner expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Health for the donation, noting that the additional vehicles would complement the state government’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, particularly maternal and newborn health services.
