Some lawyers have called for reforms to improve the enforcement of monetary judgments against government, decriminalise attempted suicide and strengthen electoral transparency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawyers made this call in Abuja urging the National Assembly to abolish the requirement for the Attorney-General’s consent in garnishee proceedings involving public funds, arguing that the provision could delay the enforcement of court judgments.
They also advocated clear timelines, adequate budgeting and judicial oversight to ensure successful litigants obtain the benefits of judgments against government.
On issues of mental health, the Law Corridor called for the decriminalisation of attempted suicide under the applicable provisions of the Criminal and Penal Codes, stressing that survivors require medical care, treatment and support rather than prosecution.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, these lawyers urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency in the management of the voters’ register and enforce statutory requirements governing political party membership registers.
They stressed that electoral credibility depends on accurate records, lawful procedures and public scrutiny.
