GOMBE

Officials of Gombe state ministry of health is seeking accreditation of its molecular lab at the state specialist hospital for the commencement of confirmatory testing for Lassa fever.

The state commissioner for health Habu Dahiru who disclosed this says there are no confirmed cases of Lassa fever. However, the state ministry is not taking any chances as it has set up surveillance centers in the eleven local governments of the state as well as areas that border other states in the North East of Nigeria.

With the stories of the emergence of Lassa fever across the country, it’s a story of caution and anticipation for officials of the state ministry of health in Gombe state.

According to the officials of the ministry, although the state had a history of cases with Lassa fever, there are no positive cases of the fever recorded this year.

However, the data supplied by the ministry of health shows a cautionary approach the ministry is taking to monitor the emergence of the fever

Officials of the state ministry say the accreditation of its molecular laboratory used in the detection of the covid-19 virus to test for Lassa fever is essential for the people in the northeast.

For now, officials of the ministry say they are watching with caution to detect and treat cases of Lassa fever in the states.
