A group known as Concerned Edo Citizens alongside other volunteer groups embarked on a peaceful protest in Benin metropolis over the non-inauguration of the Nominees to the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC who were screened and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate since November 2019.
The protesters who also accused the Minister of Niger Delta affairs, Godswill Akpabio of diverting the benefits accrued to the region to Akwa Ibom state alone want the NDDC to be removed from the Ministry of Niger Delta affairs and returned to the presidency.
The groups also want the interim management committee terminated immediately and the substantive board inaugurated, saying the absence of a substantive board of the commission has affected development in the Niger Delta region.

The protesters also called on the federal government to release the forensic audit report of the commission and punish those indicted in it.
The groups later went spiritual, praying to God to divinely intervene in the lingering NDDC saga.
