Transport Workers’ Union seeks government’s support to end Lagos crisis

The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Ibikunle Tajudeen has appealed to the Lagos state government and police to support its strategy towards restoring peace in the Idumota area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Government had suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the Idumota area of Lagos Island following the violent clash between members of the union in the area about a forth night ago.

The clash had led to the death of one person and the arrest of four others.

The NURTW President was speaking in Abuja when he presided over a peace meeting with the NURTW Lagos State Council Chairman, Musilu Akinsanya and his executive members.

In communique issued at end of the meeting, an 18-man committee headed by Azeez Abiola was set up to ensure sustainable peace is restored.

The communique also threatened to take severe measures against perpetrators of crisis in the union.

The communique cautioned politicians and traditional rulers against using some mischievous officers of the union, especially as elections draws closer.
