Resident doctors at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital UBTH embarked on a one day protest Tuesday morning against the killing of one of their colleagues, Otote Osaikhuomwan of the department of Ophthalmology.

According to the protesting doctors the thirty-six year old deceased was shot in his chest in the early hours of Monday morning at his residence in GRA Benin City in presence of his pregnant wife.

The Doctors appealed to the Nigerian Government to provide adequate security for medical practitioners.
They say the killing of doctors in the country will lead to an increase in the brain drain of the profession from the country.
