Gunmen kill two, injure three in Plateau mining community

Two people have been reportedly killed while three others sustained fatal injuries following a fresh attack at Yelwa Zangam community, few metres away from the Permanent site of the University of Jos, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

ait.live gathered that the people of Yelwa Zangam mostly youths were working at a mining site in the area on Tuesday evening February 15, when the incident occurred.

A community leader who does not want his name mentioned said “Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias invaded our community in Yelwa Zangam armed with sophisticated weapons and began to shoot at random at a Mining site and our People fled towards different directions while two were gunned down, three others sustained gunshot wounds and are now receiving treatment at a nearby clinic”.

The Plateau State Police Command while confirming the incident through it’s spokesman ASP Gabriel Ubah Said Men of the command have been deployed to the community following tension in the area and are on top of the situation.

Recall, that gunmen invaded and attacked Yelwan Zangam community, close to the permanent site of the University of Jos in August 2021, killing about 35 people despite the dusk to dawn curfew imposed in the Jos North by the state Government.
