A 22-year-old suspected kidnapper, Nasibi Iliyasu, has confessed to the police in Katsina, how he allegedly abducted his uncle’s 3-year-old daughter for ransom, to foot his marriage ceremony, aimed at making it colourful.

The spokesman of the Police, Superintendent Gambo Isah, while parading Iliyasu, also said they have succeeded in arresting another 18-year-old boy, Abubakar Abdubasir, for abducting a 4-year-old girl, for a ransom of 70 thousand Naira, to offset a debt of 10 thousand.

Parading the duo, 22-year-old Nasibi Iliyasu and 18-year-old Abubakar Abdubasir, the police spokesman, Superintendent Gambo Isah, said they were arrested, following complaints lodged by the parents of the abducted girls.

For Nasibi Iliyasu, he confessed to having abducted his uncle’s daughter to enable him to raise enough money to fund his marriage ceremony and to make it elaborate and colourful.

He added that he intended to hide the girl in a friend’s house, Mohammed Mustapha, who later turned down the request.

Iliyasu further said even after series of pleas, his friend Mustapha reported the matter to the police when he suspected abduction, culminating in his arrest.

For 18-year-old Abubakar Abdubasir, he confessed to having abducted the little girl and kept her inside an uncompleted building in the outskirts of Marabar-Kankara.

Abdubasir confessed to having later called the father of the girl and demanded a ransom of 70 thousand Naira which he said was part of what was to be used to offset a debt of 10 thousand Naira he owed a cap seller.

He said he later gave up when his father was arrested as well as, after realizing that his action was inhuman and wrong.

The police spokesman has said that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
