The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and Senator Douye Diri has noted with dismay the alleged killings eight members of the party by armed thugs during a botched rally in Ogbolomabiri in Nembe council area of Bayelsa state.
Senator Diri, spoke to journalists in Yenagoa shortly after he and Governor Seriake Dickson visited the Bayelsa specialist hospital and the federal medical Centre to sympathise with victims of the attack who are receiving treatment.
He described the killings as barbaric, demonic, undemocratic and prayed for repose of the souls of those that were murdered while calling on supporters of the PDP to abstain from taking laws into their hands.
Among the dead is the driver of the OB Van of Radio Bayelsa, Simon Onu who was gunned down beside his vehicle.
The bodies of three of the dead are at the mortuary, two were alleged to have been thrown into the river while the body of Onu is still with the JTF.
Meanwhile the Police is yet to release a statement on the attack as efforts to speak to the command proved abortive.
