Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovic, says he plans to sell Chelsea Football Club, which will end his nearly two-decade ownership of the English premier league side that he bought in 2003.
In a statement on Chelsea’s website, Abramovic said deciding to sell the club was not an easy decision to make but he believes this is the right time to part ways with the London outfit.
The Russian oligarch also said the net profit of the sale will be donated to victims of the war in Ukraine.
Abramovic has come under fire ever since his country, Russia invaded Ukraine with the English Parliament suggesting that he faces strict sanctions due to his ties with Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
Abramovic bought Chelsea for £140 million in 2003 and reports say he could sell the club for as much as £3 billion.
