Worried by the recurrent and disturbing menace of building collapse in Nigeria, Experts are calling for adequate engagement of registered building professionals whose duty is to manage building construction processes from start to finish.
While addressing Newsmen in Lagos, the experts say the 13th of March every year has been set aside to create awareness on the factors that contribute to building collapse and ways of addressing the challenge.
Since 2019 when a 5-storey building in Ita Faaji area of Lagos Island collapsed killing 20 person’s including school pupils, Building professionals have set aside the 13th of March every year to sensitize the public on how to handle building projects that can stand the test of time.
This Year, the focus is on “Building With Integrity”.
There are 7 key professionals in the built environment sector saddled with the responsibility of designing, evaluating and production management of building projects.

However, the management of the construction process is said to be hinged on the professional builder.
With the recent collapse of a 21-storey building in Ikoyi Lagos which claimed many lives including that of the owner still fresh in mind, the builders say it is time Nigerians begin to build with integrity and conscience by adhering strictly to laid down building codes and regulations.
