The Plateau State Police Command on Saturday said it has restored normalcy in Mangu Local Government Area, following tension in the area and other neighbouring communities.

ait.live gathered that tension was high in Mangun and surrounding communities since Friday after some suspected terrorists who stormed the area and abducted a trader’s son were lynched by irate mob.

The villagers were said to have mobilised themselves and chased after the suspects but only apprehended two of them while one of the residents was also said to have been shot dead by the fleeing terrorist during the incident.

The situation later degenerated when the villagers who had been under siege by the gunmen discovered that one of the lynched suspects was a Fulani man. This led to setting ablaze of 13 houses suspected to be owned by Fulani people in the area.

Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Gabriel Ubah while speaking to ait.live in Jos on Saturday said the quick intervention of security operatives saved the situation from further degenerating.

Ubah, added, that the Command has succeeded in restoring normalcy in the affected communities and had also initiated and engaged the communities on the need to live in peace.
