Operatives of the Nigeria Police have blocked the entrance of the Cross River State House of Assembly, preventing staff and others who reisde from gaining access to the complex following Monday’s Federal High Court Abuja judgement which sacked sixteen members of the state legislature.
The armed police officers took strategic positions from the State House of Assembly entrance gate,opposite the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
Confirming the blockade,the Police public relations officer, Irene Ugbo who spoke with ait.live said the action was to maintain law and order .
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja,on Monday sacked eighteen lawmakers from Cross River State – two members of the Federal House of Representatives and sixteen statef assembly members, who defected from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress
Justice Taiwo gave the order in a judgement in a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party seeking the removal of the defecting lawmakers
