Tension engulfed Yelwa Community in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria, in the early hours of Friday, as thousands of community members staged a protest to the police division, over the alleged killing of two members of the Security and Peace Committee by a police officer.

The Yelwa Police Division is situated along the Bauchi-Dass-Tafawa Balewa Highway.

The protesters came out in their hundreds and blocked the road.

According to them, the two victims who were killed were members of the Peace And Security Committee in Yelwa.

They were on a joint patrol with the Police on Wednesday night at one of the suspected black spots at Rafin Zurfi, where the alleged police officer who committed the act was seen.

They said the police officer who was trying to resist arrest, immediately removed a Jack-knife and stabbed two members of the Peace And Security Committee to death, while injuring three other people.

The protesters who were resisting pressure insisted that the police should produce the personnel who committed the act and take immediate disciplinary action against him.

A press release issued by the Bauchi State Police Command signed by its spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident.

He said that investigation and sanction of the erring officer, where necessary, have been ordered.

The erring suspect is already in custody, according to the police.
