The police in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria is having a hectic time unraveling those behind the gruesome murder of a 35 year old single lady, Nnennaya Onu.

The incident which occurred on the 23rd of December, 2021 has sparked public outrage over a seeming delay in serving justice to the deceased, as no arrest has been recorded, four months after.

A visit to the family compound of the slain lady, Nnennaya Onu located in a rural village of Ndiagu Amegu, Anike Onicha Igboeze in Onicha Local Government Area.

Nnennaya, was said to have been alone in a secluded house on the night of December 23, 2021 when the suspected hoodlums attacked her.

She was allegedly beaten, stripped naked, dismembered and burnt alive together with her belongings and that of her mother.

65 year old widow, Agnes Onu is the mother of the deceased.

She is said to have been suffering from emotional breakdown since the incident happened.

Agnes cries at the grave side of her daughter, calling for justice.

Juliet Onu, the only surviving sister of the slain lady, though did not witness the crime, is accusing members of their extended family of having a hand in the murder.

She alleges that her sister was killed because she demanded for her late Father’s inheritance, as their mother had no surviving male child.

The bewildered villagers admit that the deceased family has been embroiled in an aged long dispute, but can’t pin point where the attack came from.

Several Rights groups in the state, have stepped into the murder case of Nnennaya Onu, calling for urgent justice for the victim.

Four months gone after the incident, Police say they have commenced investigations.

So far, it’s unclear the direction the investigations may be heading, as police actions appear too slow and uncoordinated to bring the culprits to account for their crime.
