Police in Kano arrest 25-year-old suspect for killing 80-year-old grandmother

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspect, one Nasiru Magaji of Kununu Yalwa Danziyal, in Rimin Gado Local government area, Kano State, for allegedly beating-up his grandmother, one Habiba Abubakar, 80-years-old, and throwing her body in an old deep well.

Police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a press statement.

Kiyawa said on the 24th of March, a complaint was received from a resident of Wangara Village, Tofa Local Government Area of the state, that on the same date, one Nasiru Magaji, 25 years old, of Kununu Yalwa Danziyal, Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State, beat up his grandmother, one Habiba Abubakar, 80-years-old, and threw her body in an old deep well.

On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Sama’ila Dikko, raised and instructed a team of detectives, led by Isiyaku Mustapha Daura, Divisional Police Officer, Tofa Division, to proceed to the scene.

He said on reaching the scene, the team removed the body from the well and rushed it to Tofa General Hospital, where the grandmother was confirmed dead.

On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed that he was mentally stable, that he beat up the 80-year old woman and threw her body inside the well.

He also said that he committed the act after taking an intoxicating drug called excel.

He further confessed that he has been in the habit of taking hallucinating/intoxicating drugs for a long time.

He said that he was warned severally by his mother to desist from the act.

The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
