Plateau Crisis: Community raises alarm over herders’ continued attacks and destruction of Farmlands

Barely one Month after the Inauguration of a 36-man peace committee, led by Justice Daniel Longji (rtd), the Irigwe Community of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State have raised fresh alarm over the Continued attacks and destructions of farmlands allegedly by herders.

Addressing News Men in Jos, National President of the Irigwe People, Robert Dodo said crops worth over N500 million were destroyed after a Peace agreement between them and the Fulanis.

For some time now, killings and destruction has been going on among the Fulanis and the Irigwe people in Bassa, with many lives lost and properties destroyed from both sides. Just recently, the special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven inaugurated a 36-man peace committee, led by Justice Daniel Longji (rtd) in other find a lasting peace among the two commities, but barely one Month after, the Irigwe people have raised fresh alarm over continuos attacks and Destruction of crops.

According to the National President of the Irigwe People, crops worth over N500 million were recently destroyed after a Peace agreement in addition to attacks.

While demanding for compensation, they insist that all Herders be withdrawn and desist from grazing around their land’s.

For now, neither the Government nor the Falanis have responded to the claims by the Irigwe People, but citizens are hopeful that the matter will be resolved in the interest of peace.
