The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo has said that Mondays sit-at-home order imposed on the people of the South East by outlawed separatist agitation group, Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) has been abolished.

He made the declaration during a church service at St. Joseph Cathedral, Ekwulobia.

The newly inaugurated Governor said IPOB style of civil action cannot be sustained because of its negative economic on the State and the entire Southeastern region.

To officially mark the end of sit-at-home action in the State and as part of his action plan to restore normalcy, Soludo declared Monday, April 4, 2022 as a day of prayers.

Ekwulobia in the volatile Southern part of Anambra has witnessed resurgence of gunmen attacks in recent weeks.

Soludo assured that security and surveillance will be beefed to maximum level in every part of the State.

He however called on residents to go about their normal daily activities on Mondays, stressing that the new administration under his watch has consulted widely and dialogued with relevant actors on the return of peace and security in the State and the South East region.

IPOB operatives had since August 2021 enforced every Monday as a-no-work, no-movement day across the five States of South East region, resulting in the shut down of socio-economic activities including schools, government offices, markets and other public places.

Even though IPOB had repeatedly announced the suspension of the sit-at-home action limiting it only to the days its leader, Nnamdi Kanu who is currently facing treasonable charges would appear in court; many residents have continued to observe the sit-at-home order.
