Christian faithful in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in North-Central Nigeria have joined their counterparts across the world to mark the 2022 Palm Sunday that signifies the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

Addressing journalists during the procession to mark the day, Acting State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop Sunday Adewole used the event to once again draw attention to the worsening security situation in the country and the need for government’s urgent intervention to bring the situation under control.

It will be recalled that the Palm Sunday rally could not hold in 2020 as a result of Covid-19 pandemic and in 2021 for security reasons. In the face of these challenges, Bishop Adewole said Christians and indeed all Nigerians still have reasons to thank God.

Adewole while acknowledging, that the security challenges can not be solved solely by the government, called on all Nigerians to partner relevant bodies by volunteering useful information to security agencies.

Other Christians at the Palm Sunday rally called on government to step up efforts to find lasting solutions to the different levels of problems in Nigeria.

CAN as the umbrella body of Christians also tasked citizens on the need to get their permanent voter cards to enable them exercise their civic right in 2023.
