The Owerri zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Wednesday, took on the National Information Technology and Development Agency, NITDA, for misleading the Federal authorities, thereby escalating the ongoing strike by University teachers in Nigeria.

At a Press conference in Awka, Anambra State, South East Nigeria, the ASUU leaders blamed NITDA, a software certifying and approving agency under the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, over what it described as “deliberate misinformation and disinformation” of the public on the integrity test conducted on the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS.

The ASUU Owerri zonal coordinator, Uzo Onyebinama, decried the NITDA report sent to the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, noting that a software which has scored 99.3% during Integrity Test could not have been said to have failed such a test.

The striking University lecturers told Journalists that the Director General of NITDA and other government officials who have been politicizing the whole process and sabotaging the efforts of the Federal Government at resolving issues with the Union, are the real enemies of the Nigerian students and society.

The use of UTAS, a software developed by ASUU instead of the IPPIS for the payment of wages of University lecturers, is one of the key demands as the ongoing strike enters its 60th day on Thursday.
