Ten Health Management Organisations in Nigeria have been delisted for operational lapses and failure to deliver proper health insurance services to clients.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Mohammed Sambo, who said this during a news conference in Abuja noted that other Health Management Organisations are likely to be delisted if found wanting in the upcoming accreditation exercise.
For sometime now, most Nigerians have been complaining about the poor services rendered by Health Management Organizations in the country
The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Health Management Insurance Scheme, Mohammed Sambo, said the delisting of less performing health management organisations is to help clean up the mess in the system and serve as deterrent to other health management organisations.
The executive secretary also noted that the scheme has developed an accountability framework to track all funds that have been disbursed so far to states and health care facilities in Nigeria.
Health insurance in Nigeria has been decentralized thus allowing the state health insurance agencies to now cater to the formal sector at the state and local government levels.
This is in extension to the vulnerable population as the federal government only recently disbursed 14 billion naira to the states.
