The defence team in the case involving the killing of a five-year-old pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, by her school proprietor, has closed its defence, after presenting three defendants.
The defendants include the prime suspect, Abdulmalik Tanko and two other accomplices.
Two more witnesses were presented by the defence counsel, as they closed their defence
One of the defendants is Hashimu, who was accused of digging the grave, where Hanifa was buried.
In his defence, Hashimu confessed to digging the grave, along with the prime suspect, Abdulmalik Tanko, but said he never knew it was a child that was inside the sack they buried.
The other defendant, Fatima, said the prime suspect lied to her, that Hanifa was the daughter of his uncle.
She narrated how Abdulmalik promised to marry her if she can help him kidnap the child, as the proceed from the ransom will be used for their marriage.
After presenting the defendants, the defence counsel closed their case.
Following the closure, the presiding judge, Usman Na’abba, fixed 14th June, for the adoption of written addresses.
The prosecuting counsel, Musa Lawal, said they are satisfied with the whole proceeding and optimistic of a positive outcome
The defence counsel, Labaran Usman, said they are looking forward to justice being done, to both parties.
