Business owners in Sokoto Metropolis have continued to count their losses after the violent protest, staged by angry youths, in support of the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a Student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, over the alleged blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad, and demanded that the two suspects arrested be released.
Some traders at the old Halima Road, near the Sokoto Central Market, decried the high level of looting of their properties and cash by hoodlums who took advantage of the situation.
They want the government to come to their aid, to recover from the aftermath of the incident.
Though normalcy is gradually returning to Sokoto Metropolis, after the violent protest by Muslim youths last Saturday,
business owners have continued to count their losses on the incident which resulted in hoodlums looting their goods, and cash and burning properties worth millions of naira.
Some of the victims described the incident as a double tragedy for them, saying they have not recovered from the fire that engulfed their shops last year, and now, another incident where they have suffered losses.
They are calling on the government to provide support for the victims, to enable them pick up their pieces from the aftermath of the incident.
Aminu Mai Adashe, a Muslim, said they have been living with Christians peacefully, doing business together and sharing things.
He however warned that insulting Prophet Muhammad is unacceptable and condemnable.
He advised the people to desist from doing so, for peace to reign in the country.
Some Igbo traders are still entertaining fear to open their shops, despite the return of normalcy in Sokoto Metropolis.
