Democracy Day: Senate President salutes Nigerians

President of the senate Ahmad Lawan has described June 12 as a milestone in Nigeria’s journey to entrench a democratic polity, where Nigerians rose above primordial sentiments and proclaimed oneness and unity of the country

Lawan in a statement, advised Nigerians to always remember the tenets and rules of the game, by respecting the rights of others and discharge their civic responsibilities as important stakeholders in nation building project.

He noted that democracy is a process that requires popular participation, tolerance of the views and rights of others as well as spirit of sportsmanship for its sustenance.

He assured that the National Assembly will always be alive to its duties, as it did in the recent passage of the Electoral Act 2022, to strengthen the country’s democratic processes and values, make the processes more transparent to engender confidence in the Nigerian Populace

The federal lawmaker urged Nigerians to focus on building the nation with the bricks of equity, fairness and justice, so that, it can withstand challenges that may arise

As Nigerians prepare for another cycle of general elections next year, Lawan enjoins all to work for a better electioneering process and be optimistic for the success of the elections.
