Candidates in Saturday’s Governorship election in Ekiti state have entered into a peace
agreement.
The Peace Accord organized by the National Peace Committee, led by the former Nigerian Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, is an expression of public commitment by the candidates, their respective political parties and their supporters towards order and peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.
Since 2014 when the National Peace Committee, (NPC) a non-governmental initiative was Conceptualised, it has consistently deployed its goodwill for interventions on critical national issues
With the governorship election in Ekiti State barely three days away, the committee is taking its message and mobilization for peace to the candidates, the political parties, their supporters and the Ekiti electorate
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, believes the Peace Accord is central to helping the Commission organise and conduct a free, fair and credible election.
It is hoped that the agreement reached by these candidates will go beyond mere declaration, to concrete actions that will engender a process devoid of violence
