Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP and former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has comfirmed that, his party is in talks with the Labour Party and its presidential standard bearer, Peter Obi for an alliance ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Kwankwaso spoke in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Saturday.

He said the South-East has not been treated well in preparation for the 2023 presidential election and therefore the planned coalition between the two parties can give the geo-political zone breathing space and success during the election.

Kwankwaso who was a foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party, defected to the new All Progressives Congress, APC ahead of the 2015 general elections. He defected to the party with other prominent members like former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and former senator from Kogi State, Dino Melaye, who joined the PDP again before the 2019 general election.

Unable to fulfill his ambition to get the PDP presidential ticket, Kwankwaso who also served as the country’s Defence Minister later moved to the NNPP and emerged as its presidential standard bearer.
