A letter has surfaced indicating that former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu officially wrote to the British High Commission in Abuja to request visa for someone as kidney transplant donor to his daughter .

The letter which was dated 28th December, 2021 bears the insignia of his office as Senator representing Enugu West and personally signed by him.

It also indicated the mission of the donor and Ekweremadu’s daughter at the Royal Free Hospital in London with Ekweremadu providing all the funding.

There are however fears that the age of the said donor which is 15 may have been doctored to 21, and Ekweremadu and his wife may have run foul of some laws in the UK.

The lawmaker and his wife, Beatrice were arrested and detained on Thursday by the Metropolitan Police for arranging travel of a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

Ekweremadu and his wife were subsequently arraigned at the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court but were denied bail.

They will remain in custody for two weeks until July 7 when the case comes up for hearing.
