Group seeks better welfare for widows in Cross River State

Widows in Cross River State have called on the Government and other public spirited individuals to help them in their bid to become self reliance, following the daily hardship due to non implementation of widow rights law.

This is just as Traditional Rulers and Religious leaders called on Government to provide a platform for widows to interact and engage themselves calling on families to stop unholy treatment against widows in Cross River State.

Speaking during a meeting in Calabar, a human right lawyer,Ima-Nsa Adgoke while explaining the plight of widows in the state said women especially young ones who lost their husband in Cross River state have been on the increase. She called for collaborations to provide them with source of living.

According to information presented by the human right lawyer, over fourty thousand widows have registered in Cross River State, a development Adegoke described as worrisome.
