Nigeria’s House Of Representatives on Tuesday invited the Minister Of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, his Foreign Affairs counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the Acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Isah Jere, over the arrest of the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, in the United Kingdom.

This followed a Matter Of Urgent National Public Importance, on the need for the Federal Government to ensure that the investigation against the former Deputy President of the Senate conforms with the rule of law and respect for the rights of the individuals, enshrined in the European Convention On Human Rights.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, upon resumption of plenary on Tuesday, said he has asked the Nigerian High Commissioner, to avail Senator Ekweremadu and his family, of all necessary defence and support that he will need to defend himself.

The House also asked all agencies and corporate bodies involved, to act swiftly, to provide required legitimate requests for information, and facilitate the prompt resolution of the charges against them.

The lawmakers further warned against subjecting the accused to the court of public opinion, as the House is trying to get in touch with the U.K parliament, on the matter.

The London Metropolitan Police had last week, charged the lawmaker and his wife, with conspiracy to traffic a child to the United Kingdom, to harvest organs.
