Fifty-Four years after leading an armed struggle against the Federal Government over issues of exploitation and environmental injustices in the Niger Delta, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has on Tuesday, passed a bill immortalizing the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro with an official holiday.
The bill which was sponsored and first presented on the assembly floor in July last year, by the lawmaker representing Kolokuma-Opokuma Constituency One, Tonye Isenah, received wide support from other members during the deliberations.
Speaking shortly after the passage, the Speaker, Abraham Ingobere, said the legislation was a modest effort to celebrate Adaka Boro, whose sacrifices have continued to inspire the people of the Niger Delta.
The members during the plenary, also received correspondence from the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, forwarding the names of several nominees for screening and confirmation, into the Local Government Service Commission, as well as the Board of Internal Revenue.
