Unspecified number of policemen have been killed by gunmen in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria.
The victims were attacked while on routine duty at a checkpoint along the Akwuke-Garki Road in Enugu metropolis.
A source told AIT.live that there was heavy shootings at the popular MTD Junction in Akwuke, as the operatives engaged the gunmen in a shootout.
Details of the attack which happened in the early hours of Thursday, are still sketchy as residents of the area were reported to have scampered for safety during the gun battle.
Efforts to get police confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful, as the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe did not respond to calls.
