Hundreds of Nigerian youths have staged a protest against the continuous resurfacing of long queues at fuel stations across the country.
They are calling on the major stakeholders in the petroleum industry to shun sharp practices and high profit-making targets, in the interest of Nigerians.
Addressing the media during the protest in Abuja, one of the coordinators, under the, Stand Up For Nigeria Group, Sunday Attah, said the masses, especially the youths, are being forced to pay double transport fares, following the failure of key players in the oil sector, and demand for quick possible solutions, to end the artificial scarcity.
They said the scarcity of the product is affecting the vital components of the nation’s economy, including the banks, courts, factories and others, as they are now forced to reduce working hours, due to lack of fuel.
The fuel scarcity has persisted in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and some other parts of the country in the last four months, as a result of fear from some media reports, that the Federal Government may remove fuel subsidy, before the end of 2022, as well as the high cost of transporting the product from the ports by oil marketers.
