Operatives of the Edo State Police Command in collaboration with local vigilante group in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area have arrested an eighteen year old suspected cultist and motorcyclist in possession of a gun.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Command and signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
Iwegbu in the press statement said Police operatives along with some members of the local vigilante group intercepted the motorcyclist Abdulsado Usman who was acting suspicious and in an attempt to stop him, he shot at the police team in a bid to escape but was subdued and arrested.
An on the spot search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally made cut to size single barrel gun, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge and one motorcycle with registration number BEN-316-QP.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed that he belongs to the Vikings Confraternity.
While investigation is ongoing to charge the suspect to court, the Commissioner of Police has assured residents of the State that the command will not relent in its efforts to rid the State of Criminal elements and their cohorts.
He solicited the cooperation of the public to always provide prompt and credible information that will lead to the arrest of criminal elements.
There has been an upsurge in cult clashes in the State in recent times leading to several deaths.
Many arrests have been made in that regards with incriminating items recovered by the Police.
