Nasarawa State records six cases of Monkeypox

Six confirmed cases of Monkeypox have been recorded in two local government areas of Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria.

State Commissioner for Health, Ahmed Yahaya Baba confirmed this in a statement in Lafia, the state capital.

Yahaya gave the breakdown of the six confirmed cases of the disease to include four in Lafia and two in Keffi Local Government Areas of the State.

He said that the State Government has activated the Emergency Operational Centre for Monkeypox with an Incident Manager appointed to check further spread of the disease.

The Commissioner also pointed out that the affected persons are receiving treatments at the Specialist Hospital, Lafia and the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

Yahaya enumerated some of the ways the disease can be transmitted including direct contact with infectious body rashes, scabs and body fluids of infected persons as well as respiratory discharges.
