Popular actress and Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Funke Akindele, has called on young people in the state to rally around her candidacy, as well as take full advantage of “their numeric strength” to achieve the Lagos of their dreams.
The multiple award-winning Nollywood actress made the call when she took to her verified Instagram page: Funkejenifaakindele, to officially confirm her nomination as running mate to Governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor.
“Jennifer”, as she is fondly called by fans, said it was time the “youths take their rightful place in matters that concern their lives”, and make Lagos truly work for them, as opposed to working for a privileged few.
She said her
interest in politics and eventual decision to take up the challenge to contest side by side with Jandor on the platform of the PDP was borne out of a passion to touch lives, especially those of young people, women and the girl child, in positive ways.
Akindele counts on her years of brilliant successes in the Nigerian film industry, that have made her a household name, especially among young people.
The Ikorodu-born actress who holds a degree in Law from the University of Lagos is, however, counting more on her strict moral upbringing from “a no-nonsense” father, who retired as a teacher, and the love of her mother, a medical doctor, to deliver the goods and make all the difference.
