ADEMOLA ADELEKE

Sixty-two years old Nigerian politician and former federal lawmaker, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke will take charge of Osun State as the Executive Governor of the South Western State for the next 4 years.

The dancing Senator, as he is fondly called, snatched the Governorship seat after a second shot at it; beating off the incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola.

After a decent career in the business circle which saw him in the boardroom of high net worth local and foreign companies, Adeleke in 2001 actively joined politics, following in the foot steps of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

But it was not until 2017 following the death of his brother in April of that year, that the younger Adeleke came to the limelight when he came to replace his brother in the Senate- winning the election as Senator representing Osun West.

He held the senatorial seat from 2017- to 2019, but it was the dancing skills of the lawmaker that announced him more to the world.

Adeleke hails from the popular Adeleke family of Ede in Osun. In 2018, his family trademark name was not enough to win him the Governorship seat, losing in very “controversial circumstances” to top contender, Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

The election was declared inconclusive by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and a rerun slated on 27 September 2018. The candidate of the APC Oyetola was declared winner after the run-off. Adeleke protested the result describing the election as a “coup”.

On 22 March 2019 the tribunal sitting in Abuja declared Adeleke the winner of the election.

The Supreme Court later affirmed Gboyega Oyetola as the authentic winner of the 2018 Osun State governorship election on Friday, 5 July 2019.

Four years after, Adeleke returns to Osun older and wiser and still on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to clinch the coveted Governorship title in style.

Ademola Adeleke is a father of five including B-Red and uncle to popular musician, Davido.
