Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri has tasked the Federal Government against turning the country into a unitary system of government, describing the recent reintroduction of the Water Resources Bill in the National Assembly as draconian.

The Governor condemned the Bill on Friday when the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa, the state capital.

The visit of the Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Didi Walson-Jack, was to inform the Governor about the National Water Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, programme and other initiatives in the water resources sector and to seek the State’s cooperation for its implementation.

He says it will be unfair and unjust to oil producing states who were still agitating for a fair deal from their oil and gas resources to contend with a contest for their water resources.

The Governor assured of the State’s readiness to ensure that the 3.6 million-litre Federal Government water scheme at Otuoke is resuscitated and that the issue of open defecation was dealt with head long.
